Fox Airs Hurricane-Themed Crossover With Family Guy, Cleveland Show, Dad

Family Guy Remember the hurricane that was supposed to sweep through three of the Fox's animated comedies last May? They were pulled at the last minute after deadly tornadoes hit the southeastern U.S. just days before the episodes of The Cleveland Show, Family Guy and American Dad were set to air. Those episodes will finally be shown this Sunday, but without the promotional hype that typically accompanies a multi-series crossover. Fox also plans to air public service announcements for the Red Cross during the night. "We're toning it down quite a bit," says Fox's scheduler Preston Beckman. "We've learned our lesson. We didn't expect it to be a challenge when we had to pull it." Beckman noted that the network would yank the episodes again if there were another disastrous weather event, but there is nothing in the forecast. But he is keeping his fingers crossed. If anyones going to topple the Modern Family bandwagon for the trophy, its this, particularly if Carells potential acting win spurs a domino effect. The Office also won once before, albeit five years ago following its first full season. Why It Cant Possibly Win: The vote will go The Offices way, but not in this category. Possible wins for lead actor and writing figure to be seen as more than enough. This academy also isnt habitually the most sentimental bunch, so Carells departure isnt guaranteed to widely resonate. The show also failed to land a single nomination for its writing or directing, and the last time a comedy won the top series statuette without either was Friends in 2002. So Big Bang isnt the way to bet. Parks and Recreation (NBC) Deedle-Dee Prods, Fremulon & 3 Arts w/ Universal Media Studios Why It Was Nominated: Like Big Bang Theory, Parks and Recreation is a first-time visitor to the Outstanding Comedy lineup after about 18 months of steady buzz extolling its growing quality. Its built into a consistently acclaimed half-hour that shares the mockumentary brilliance of its NBC Universal/Deedle-Dee Prods stablemate The Office, with a cast headed by the effortlessly witty Amy Poehler. Why It Has To Win: Has there been a bigger upset in Emmy history than this win would be? Possibly not. But that doesnt mean its impossible and wouldnt be deserved. "Lost" alum Michael Emerson certainly elevates the material, but Jim Caviezel's taciturn operative is so emotionally removed that viewers don't have much, initially, with which they can connect. Replacing "CSI" as the network's Thursday linchpin, the show is a shrewd if not terribly exciting bet on upping the network's hip quotient without straying far from its procedural wheelhouse. Caviezel's former special-forces officer Reese -- introduced roughing up punks on the subway -- is retired and extremely dangerous, as well as bearded and homeless, when recruited by Finch (Emerson), a billionaire benefactor determined to turn him loose on a pet project. "You need a purpose," Finch tells him, suggesting said sense of direction lies in helping people, offering each of them potential redemption. How does Finch's program work? In addition, Taraji P. Henson is onboard as a detective, though what she'll bring to the party remains as murky as the technology undergirding Finch's creation. Indeed, it's difficult to escape the feeling that the high-tech plot device is simply a high-fallutin' means of creating a well-financed vigilante -- to borrow a writing credit Nolan shared with his brother Christopher: Batman, minus the cape and cowl -- and turn him loose on evildoers with procedural precision.
